Koi...

actually Jinno requested me to post this pic, as she tried to be in my 'foot'step.

and ooo, the story behind the picture is (extract from email)

this picture was taken in a coffee shop that we got from the froodor guide book saying it's one of the must visit place while in kyoto and inorder to get into the shop we had to wait. We were asked to sit in the garden which just in 2 steps infront. We saw real big japanese koi and jin took one with her shoes and she insists to mention that this is in Kyoto not tokyo.

so anyone else wanna share their travel stories or just wanna show their feet pics...all is welcome. it will be a collection of feet then. niceee...

HK: architecture...

now time for some architecture...

not in any particular order... HSBC building by Norman Foster. Mine mine mine!!! It's my first time to actually visit the building up close and saw Steve & Smith (the 2 fengshui-ed position lion guard). Also gained access to the building courtesy of Pris. yeah!!! Well...just the 28th floor. good enuf for me. yes...there is a restaurant on that level. So Breakfast @ HSBC.

And also finally got up close to Bank of China by I M Pei, which is one of my favourite piece of architecture.

enuf of me blah di blah...just check out the pics.

HK food...

the food...now where do i begin? seriously...u know my memories sometimes can be rusty. ok...here goes...

actually i did not take much pic of the food cos everyone kept on saying...nah nah...you want to take, ready? i want to eat... and plus sometimes i'm just too hungry or saliva oledi in my mouth. hehe!

We ate in all sorts of places, from McD to Deli, from Char Zan Teng (coffee shop) to restaurant.

first dinner when we arrived, as we need to eat earlier cos SL is waiting for us haha!

omg! i tell you, the award-winning beef just melts in your mouth. No kidding!!! i tell you...it's that yummy!!!so as the roast goose, roast duck and prawns

Kathy brought us to this Bistro in town, tucked between some tall building and the feel is fantastic. Food was cheap as chips. One of us claimed it to be 6 course meal (if you incl the complimentary bread).

starter, soup, mains, desserts, followed by coffee o tea. And the lunch only cost HK90 incl service charge. Value man! and they tasted fantastic...well for the one i ordered lah.

met up with Teng, Tim, Pris, Dr Chan and his cousin for dim sum in Times Square. Queue was loooong. Yes! like you always see in those drama series...yes you have to wait. so wait loh, wat to do? I'm so tired i tell you by then, so did not make much small talk.So u can imagine, we just ticked 2 of these, 2 of those, 2 of that, and ended up with loads. Did we finish? of course we did haha!
it's delicious yo! Dim sum in HK never disappoint, i tell you.

our last nite, we ate at this cafe/restaurant called Baby Blues in Causeway Bay. Quite clever really, the way they set up their menu for set dinner plan A or B or C or D. Too long to explain, but basically you get to order loads of starters, mains and desserts to share among yourself.

As Pris was having her hair primmed & treated for over 5 hours, we started without her. And yes, i just got back from hugging & taking picture with Sandy muahaha! and starving...

starters
mainsDesserts

ooo desserts...ok kathy claimed they are not the best in town, but to me...they are one of them. ok! mango, coconut cream and pomelo.
they are heaven...

and later found out they also do another one...all the above with redbean. OMG!!! with redbean. YUMMMMMMM!!!!

i was heavily recommended by both Kathy & Pris about this new (to me) place called Honeymoon House. Famous for durian yes!
DURIAN pancake.
Fresh durian with fresh cream wrapped with super thin pancake. OMG! if only you guys are there to share cos its just too much for me alone to finish all by myself. why?

we also ordered...mango (yum) with fresh cream wrapped in 3 different skin pancakes. The others just had a nibble. My god! its yummy but too much for me to finish all yo! Plus i also ordered tahu-fa with MANGO... yummmmm!

and ooo we found Asabo... one of our favourite for freshly made greentea icecream with loads of redbean and mochi. yummmm.... I first had it in taiwan, found it too in spore and now in HK.

of course, smelly fried bean curd. yes! u read it correctly. Smelly.
Trust me! its nice!!! ok, from a distance the smell well...kinda put you off...but the crispiness of the outer layer with the soft inner...with hot & sweet sauce...olala!...yes! at first, our Ms Kathy declined to eat, then ok, then no, then she almost had one whole piece. haha!

Macau...

Hopped over to Macau for a day to find Chor Gor-Gor or Man Chor haha! *yes! those who watched TVB series will know who i'm talking about.

As i have never been to the ex-portuguese administered colony before, it was an eye-opener for me & Zar. So after our breakfast on the 28th floor, we took a cab to Sun Tak Centre to catch the ferry to Macau. Just pay for your Turbojet express, HK$132 single, and off you go.

Once you arrived, for us who required visas. Yes incl yellow ic kaliyah! Its actually better cos for the queue for those who required to make visa is hmm...how shld i say it...extremely short ie. only 2 of us (maybe followed by a couple more later) while the queue for others is suppppper looong. phew! only HK100 each and it's quick.

Wat is Macau famous for?

As its my first time there, and all i want to is the Venetian Casino/Hotel, the famous architecture (ruins & steps) and of course, portuguese tarts. wat else?

upon arrival, the Macau Grand Prix was on-going, thus most buses are cancelled or disrupted to ease the traffic and taxis queue are looong. So we took the free shuttle bus to the Venetian. Yes! all casinos have free shuttle bus to and from the ferry. They want your ka-ching.

It was a good 15 minutes ride due to traffic. But not complaining cos the seats are comfy and spacious.

However, all shuttle buses arrived & parked at the other side of the hotel, we did not get to feel the majestic of the casino/hotel at all.
Where is the grand entrance? ...only greeted by this sign...in the parking area. hmm...

But i got to say, the space (interior) is MASSIVE!!! wat you guys had seen on other sites or blogs, yes...its that huge.
But was it all that? judge yourself lah...

just one section of the public casino? where is the private ones?

look up!!! i wonder how many men (or women), it took to finish the muriel?
yes...as it's called the venetian...wat do you expect to find? venice of course...the theme: from zoning names to having gondolas in the building. so Mag, if venice is too far to revisit, pop over to macau to experience it minus the smell. yes! no smell. Of course also u dun get italians singing in the gondolas nor gelatos stand everywhere.

There are still quite a few, actually quite a number of shops yet to open. just look at the spaces. It's massive.

Yes, i did little deposit @ the casino too...

hei, the music in the toilet is opera ya!!! so you can't finish doing your business as it's not over till the fat lady stop singing.

As we did not visit the hotel section or rooms cos we did not stayed over like Ms R or sponsored by the casino like some blogger ala Mr K.

So letter to the PR of Venetian Macau, if you looking to give away any free stays for review of your casino/hotel, yes do drop me a line. But do so, when the Cirque du Soleil is in town ok. hehe!

had a quick lunch at the 3 Monkeys- hear no evil, speak no evil, and see no evil... Food was ok but overpriced. wat do you expect in such a place huh?
we are hungry yo! almost finish the free peanuts.

did my best SL's City Rhythm part 3 album shot hahaha! hei when u in venice...u just got to ya!

No shot of the hotel or rooms as we did not stay there. According to doc & co, it's not all that. Cos like us, we all arrived at the same place and maybe becos it's new...everyone wanna stay so the queue to check in is loooong. Once you got ur room, no one is at hand to serve you or direct you to your room, and as for the rooms...well i dunno...

anyway...post late lunch we took the free shuttle bus back to the ferry terminal as we were told to do so rather than take a cab due to traffic and diversion.
and saw the entrance (or wat i think is the entrance)...got to say...the outside is not tat interesting as the inside...but still where is the bloody grand entrance (or is there one?)

Anyhos, at the ferry terminal checked with the information counter for transportation suggestions, cos the queue for taxi is loooong.

So opted for the free bus to town and stopped us at centre of Senado Square.

Wow! look @ the architecture. Neoclassical buildings with pastel-colored the facade,...the streetscape.

Walked up, past loads of shops, alleys and people till we reach our (my) intended destination. Seen it in TV series, movies and pictures but never been there. So it was surreal to see it in front of you. It is! it really is. Dunno why? It's like seeing something you know so well but never been there? but where is chor gor-gor?

The Ruins of St Paul's or as the local called it Tai Sam Ba.

and ever wondered what is behind the facade?

nothing yes! nothing...just space...

looking at the centre of macau and behind me, stood one of the strangest piece of architecture i've seen- the Lisbon: it's kinda avant garde or is it? I think Zar secretly like it. haha!

as we travelled alone...so no one to hold the camera for us...so like everyone else...

and when u come to macau, you just have to eat portuguese tart. Com'on.

it's delish man! and cheap!!! HK6. the original leh...well for all i know lah.

and ooo look who i found...i tot i saw a tweety bird...i did, i did...

walk around and snapped here and there...then traced our way back to the ferry terminal. Back to HK.

Macau to me is different from HK: from the buildings to the surroundings. It's small and compact; probably because i only spent like 3 hours in the city centre. So did not get to meander round the valleys. Macau left me with a good impression and i hope to be back for more Portuguese tarts. It was a great short hop.

ok this is a long post...hope u guys did not fall zzz cos there are more pics. interested check out facebook later lah! now back to HK...

HK: at the peak...

This was my 2nd time up @ the peak...

Thanks to Pris (vice president ya!) for being the tour guide this time around, and yes dear, he is 'opening up' his option, for just in case.

Anyway, Pris recommended us to have a drink in the Bubba Gump and i must say, great choice. why?if Forrest Gump is your favourite movie, just like me, YOU'RE IN FOR A TREAT.

Bubba Gump is a Forrest Gump themed restaurant. From the decor to the menu. Yes, it's Forrest good old friend Bubba (inspired) restaurant.

See even calling the waiter is way cooler then shouting 'you fool, here'...or 'yo yo! miss miss, here'...cos all you need to do is this... flip the sign to...

to grab waiter/ress attention

and flip to ... once it's done...

yes! RUN FORREST RUN!!!

As we just had dinner in Lan Kwai Fong with the others, which we really should have eaten here but cest la vie. So we just snacked on their shrimps...yumm...and ordered mango chillers..which Pris insisted us to order our drinks that come with the 'cool' magical lighted-up glass.

yes! its so cool...when the drinks came...wah!!!!! all flashy and all but after a while ...pain in the eye haha! so we turned it off. and best of all, we get to keep the glass. YES! KEEP IT...well...go to the counter and grab a new one of your choice: clear, blue or pink.

I also heard the food is great too, so next time anyone going to the peak for a meal and sight seeing, do visit this place. Way way cool...

even their drinks menu comes in a ping pong racket. i tell so much fun.
and yes...life is like a box of (milk or dark) chocolate...

Then we moved on to outside without any blazers or jumpers or cardis. I tell you, 3 of us are in tee-shirt ya. Buuuurrrr!!! it's cold.
But hei, we need to at least have our photo taken in front of the HKscape ya! No time to do any yoga pose. Plus people waiting for their turn too.

HK...the arrival

wanted to write about the flight, the food, the journey and maybe incl a pic of my shoes, as always.well...maybe one... cos too much to cover and write and talk about the HK trip man...

so fast forward to arrival @ Chek Lap Kok Airport.
bought a return airport express from airport to HK island which incl 3 days unlimited use of the MTR for just HK250.
and guess wat? we had Krispy Kreme. yes! upon arrival, u can get ur donut fix.

Me not so much of the original glazed donut craze cos it's super sweet for my tastebuds. So i opted for the dark chocolate ones with custard fillings.

yes! see...the custard oozing out cos the big fat oink oink munching it.

Met up with the Doc & Co in causeway bay
prior to our concert for a bit of walkaround/window shopping.
Halo...its HK ok. dun tell me, you go there n see see and no buy. Crazy.

summer trip part 8 : BangKathy

our summer trip - the extended version (or not!)

Our 2 days stopover @ BKK and also to meet up with our gorgeous Kathy-not a day over 28 lah. happy u! *heheAfter all the high in Tokyo, i got to say, BKK was a downer for me. I'm sure there were some 'up' moments for elim hehe. shhh!!! The city in general was dirty -which Mag defended as it's characters. The taxi drivers well...some are really kind and a couple of them are real CONMAN. Serious. Let me summarize them for you: THEY ARE CONMAN!

wat happened? 1. On rainy days, taxi fares quadrupled and some don't even want to take us. (well same as KL lah)

2. They will say, "help me, help you". So remember cheap rides comes with a price. No free lunch. Once u hopped onto their cabs, they will bring you to the world's biggest gem factory (so they claimed) so they will get a stamp for free gallons of petrol. This is a conspiracy between the taxi drivers and factories. They will sweet talk and make conversation to get you there and once got what they wanted, silence.

3. They will drop you in a restaurant they conspired with, and leave you there; despite arguing it's not the place you wanted. You got no choice but get out of the taxi.

4. They tried to 'recommend' you places and God forbids, if you declined and insisted on going to your destination, their faces turned black and sounded pissed off.

So to the Thai Tourism Board, for all the work you guys try to promote your country, shame on your taxi drivers in giving a bad impressions to the tourists.

Shopping in BKK is not cheap. WHO SAY IT IS? ooo... aunties and uncles. Really. where? ok, maybe the market and the big MBK centre, but the stuffs they sell are hmm...just say catered for aunties and uncles lah.

Big departmental stores stuffs aint cheap and designer stuffs aint cheap either (some are even more expensive than tokyo).

Ok ok! they have a huge shopping centre. Massive actually. Worth a look and visit i must say. Interiors for all the stores/cafes are amazing. Even a simple ice cream parlour is so so well designed.
mine mine.

Food was supposed to be good: think tom yum, think spicy, think ice tea. Where did we go and fill our stomach?

First nite as arranged by le'qua we had steamboat or in sherry's case: hotpot. Dunno why the taiwanese called them hotpot.

We went to a chain restaurant (left) and the food wasn't that great nor that bad. So-so. As usual, we being greedy opted for 2 soup favours haha! why not? and got to say, their tom yum broth wasn't oily nor over powering spicy. Nice. But their portion of food not big enough to fill us vultures.

Give it a try when you guys heading there.

Some of you guys heard of Bed Bar. think Carrie & Co in SATC. yup! where you can dine, drink, if lucky (*winked) sleep on the bed and dance too. We went to the BKK one the following night called Bed Supper Bar.

and yes...i slept on the bed. so does our disco queen-the one on the left as the one of the right busy...

there are 2 parts or zones: bed or bar. the latter was packed like sardines so we resorted to find a bed for us to jump/lie and 'look around'. (*hehe!) It wasn't easy to find one at first, as it was rather packed in here too; but after back and forth, up & down the club, we found one, and danced around it.

The crowd, not that interesting but at least it was my first experience in BED. It allowed me to nap off the 10% alcohol in my drinks on the big white bed. (*hahaha)

Chasing the Blue Elephant
literally, all of us (in 2 separate taxis) are looking for the blue restaurant ala amazing race style. W&M's taxi dropped them in some restaurant (point 3) and insisted it's the right one. Then the next 2 taxis do not know where the elephant is.

As for our taxi, where do i start? we wrote the address in thai, dunno where? cab driver called his friends, still dunno where? almost one hour later, from no rain to rain, still dunno where? asked around the area, got redirected, still lost. Finally, finally finally...we got there. goodness!

I do wonder, if the blue elephant establishment is famous, and recommended by critics, why come no bloody taxi drivers know where? idiot!

is the food any good? it was good, i got to say and we all have a great time. O because we were really hungry by then. No seriously, the food was nice. The ambiance was great too. Very colonial style and full of ang-mohs. How come no locals?

Anyway, we had a great time and post dinner, we went on a scary journey. No joke.

The taxi took us ALL of us in one cab (yes!) to a clubbing area. That journey took us like forever. Up the highway, down the highway and through the toll way, passed some industrial areas and it was dark. Then finally we arrived in a clubbing area. Literally, rows of clubs & bars. Only to find out, on our way back to the hotel, it's just like 5 mins drive from our hotel. HUH? wat the f**K?

It was a saturday night, free entrance and all, and i got to say. The clubs are banging and packed with sardines. Seriously. Nin nia have never seen such packed clubs before. EVER, where u literally danced shoulder to shoulder. HOW to dance, may i ask? excuse me, excuse him, excuse her, in and out, madness. No crowd control one meh. I'm tired even to write about this, and by this time, all of us was tired and wanting to head back, but not our dear 'always tired' kathy who seemed to be full of energy then.

finally the end of the holiday...

we all have to say our goodbyes to Kathy as our flight was scheduled differently, so we ended up (wasting her time & money-as said by her) to go sight seeing. when will we see you again?

at the airport, queuing up, all of us are really really tired. 'N me in my superfine ic! berlin sunnies (*haha!) Ok, i got to say this is one of my impulse purchases in Tokyo and i am loving it. Superfine, superlight and superme.

our luggages and u can just imagine, with 5 of us travelling through 2 cities for 10 days, sure overweight one lah. If i say No, u believe?

ps. we are now not planning for our summer 2008. hmm...

summer trip part 7 : almost the end

our last dinner in tokyo with our host who put up with the bidarlahs. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH, once again.

We had dinner with the ambassador. Wat an honor is tat huh? We ate at an Pakistani restaurant and the food is delicious. The chicken is so tender, the beef/lamb is succulent, the briyanis, and check out the naan bread- super long & high.

and ooo...the desserts(right) OMG! where can i get it? look like a naan bread but it's not. No ghee. How to describe it? imagine the most beautiful flower hahah! no no... Inside of the naan bread stuffed with coconut

post dinner, all of us resorted to our residences and pack and pack and zzzzz....

saying sayonara to Tokyo is not an easy thing cos BIDARLAH heart TOKYO!!!

on the way to the airport...

if only we can stay another day or week longer *hehe! everyone is so so tired in the van that we dozed off till at the airport. Maybe recollecting our thoughts on the trip or thinking of the VISA BILLS *hahaha!
