It was just like any other night. I was young then. I was! Believe me.

It was 1989. I vividly remember then. How can one not?

She entered my life without any warning signs and took my breathe away.

She took my breathe away with Shoo do wop.

My small eyes opened up that night, my arse stay glued to the seats and nothing around me matters at that very moment.

The TV was pumping out

It's the turning point in my music life/taste, if not MY LIFE.

Yes, Sandy Lam 林憶蓮 entered my life ever since. Her performance, her movement, her voice, her style, her hair, her everything is etched in my mind forever. No other artistes compares to her, in my opinion. (pic)

There are tons of words (詞不達意) which can be use to describe SL but to me, she is simply Sandy

Unlike fans in HK, who get to see her every single time there is an event or performance, or

bump into her while shopping occasionally. (pic) Lucky biatches. ;)

But hei, i had my moments with Sandy ok. Last year, i took an one-2-one picture 面對面 with SL, which i doubt she will remember but I do. Forever!!!

Actually, years back, back in 1992, back in my teenage years, a few of us (doc & E too) got snapped with our SL in Lion City Airport. oh yes! We were there for one of her performance, our first time to see SL performing live on stage and she was fantastic. She sang like 4 tracks* wearing her red sparkling Dolce & Gabanna jacket, looking superfine!

* Rush, Wake Up, 2 different paths, Lover's tears. (all mandarin)

We found out from Spore fans, she will be leaving the next day so like crazy 瘋了 fans we waited at the airport for her.

Hei, it's our first up close and personal moment with our Sandy yo! Suffice to say, it was fun & memorable.

She was super sweet & kind. no joke! She was running late for her flight, and some fans bought her dolls & gifts, so her then manager (Clarence) need to stuff all of them into the luggage quickly while SL helped him out and making brief conversation with us.

What did we want? Photo session lah. wat else.

She kindly said, "ok!, but let me check-in first." ... then we will get our chance.

Thank you for your music all these years.

Totally agreeing with you, music has no boundaries. Language is not a barrier. Even Zar (who speak no chinese: be it mandarin or cantonese) is listening and loving your music. He even sing along too, may i add.

Your dedication and passion inspires me. (pic)

I bet you hear loads of mushy words like: love you, love your work, forever your no 1 fan; nonetheless they are true.

Finally finally finally...*

OMG. it's sooo good. I'm not biased ok, i may be a super die-hard fan (i admit and i'm proud to be) but SL voice is simply FANTASTIC! her live is super super super good. no joke.

why i said 'finally' 3 times? well...long story short...release date in lioncity was much later than HK (which was on 2702-yup my bday itself). So yesterday afternoon...finally got hold of the cd and it had been playing non-stop- in the car, in my room, while playing wahjong, in the office and even in my zzz.

so imagine when i first heard it over the radio, before i got the cd myself...the DJ is a big sandy fan and he played Chicago's story, you can imagine my emotions in my zoom zoom.

WTF? arghhh! speaker volume up! and SL voice blasted over my bose speaker, her voice cannot be anymore clearer and crisp, just like cd quality! and i tell you...Goosebumps!!!!!! all over i'm not kidding! the power of SL! (pci)

An hour later, he played another track: Cry and it was amazing!!!



memory flash to the concert! if you think you heard Cry before, listen to the new re-arranged version!...i was like ENUFFFF! hahaha...it's too good!

Now i have the cd myself...yeah!!!! True music lovers should get this album. Not ur usual pop group or manufactured stuff. Now i'm waiting for the DVD!!!

the end: a new beginning...08

wat have you guys achieved in 2007?

that's the dreaded question we asked each other at the end of the every year... o gosh!

seriously wat have I done in the past 365 days that i'm really really proud off or worth a mention? hmm...

work wise - let's see...couple of feasibility studies which i'm pleased with, unfortunately cannot show you guys as it's PnC.

However, 2007 saw the birth of the monument, the 'blue' church finally got approved-phew! (will take some pics soon), and another on-going project on site.

money wise - would love to earn more (who doesn't) and me no entrepreneur like him, as i dun have any business mind. so no end of year balance sheet or profit/loss account to show. For those feeling generous, i can give u my bank a/c number or paypal a/c for any donations.

love wise - well, like all relationships: there are ups & downs, happy moments & frustrations. If you tell me, yours is all highs and no fights; let me know how u do it; cos i seriously doubt it. I believe we know each other pains-in-the-butts and other annoying habits, but it's always nice to have that someone there by your side, share your rants & well...do things any adult do.

travel wise - Tokyo - hands down!!!

one of the most foreign distinct cities in Asia. I hv been asked loads of time,"So you gonna back again?" answer: (u see...i m a very indecisive person.) Dun get me wrong...i heart tokyo to the T (no pun intended) and there are soooo much more to explore in the city but at the same time, there are soooo many other cities i would like to visit in 2008 or in the future. So i guess Yes! but not anytime soon. (unless there's any kind sponsors or readers willing to provide me any free trips!*wishing)

1. (top of the list)
went to watch the best music show ever in HK

Sandy Lam Live 2007 and as a cherry on top of the cupcake;
met & hugged our diva and had our picture taken. Man!!!

2. sat my exam (trying) to be 'yellow'. Real intense and what a relieve after. Result will only be out mid year 2008. So wish me luck.

3. safari 30. how can i forget this?

ok...it may not be the best party...by far...but it's my party and i got everyone to come in safari-inspired outfit. No names shall be mentioned: catsuit, and load of animal prints.

4. Besides Tokyo being the travel of 07 for me, the short trip to KK with Z deserves a mention.
why? i got to stay in a brilliant resort, went snorkeling, got myself tanned (which i so need of one now), and managed to buy everything in Seed store for 50%...thanks to the manager. Would definitely love to go back there soon.

5. Bidarlah finally went dot.com haha! thanks to Z :)

6. Got myself a new E-phone! yeah!!! It's not tat big as you guys say ok!!! it's just the right size otherwise how to blog huh? now searching for the perfect cover...and might have just found one.

wat happened in 2007 around me?

1. Book fairs.
why are book fairs in brunei always such a let down. in March & on board.

2. Bloggies
since i started, a few of the bidarlahs joined the blogosphere and at the same time a few of them vanished into thin air- (name shame time haha)

MV - i think he stayed in Japan ever since
Jollibert - well...maybe McD ate them up? o they moved to sesame street?
Sherry's Cafe - got locked up and maybe renovating into a bar.
Cest'a vie- well...maybe too busy with all the jet setting's lifestyle.

add the same time, met a few new bloggies and became my dailies, check out the sidebars. I will add more soon.

3. Byes
the Yip clans temporarily moved their base to London as mama J doing her master.
Hippo Von moved to the lioncity doing her hmm...bar? or something...becoming a 'hooter' maybe hehe!

4. Brothers & Sisters
How can i not mention my top show for 2007 (ok it was released the year before i think but anyway) ... why are u so cute? and U got to have faith! For those who have not watch any, I URGE U to do so. Series 2 is showing now.

5. facebook - the new friendster; the only place where anyone can poke or throw sheep or bitchslap anyone, and the new platform for busybodies to peep into your frienemies's life without them know.

Q: Does higher number means you are a social moth or otherwise? How many applications have you got or keep on receiving? I got 170 new applications yet to be approve and will i add them: NO. can't be ask to delete as they will keep on coming anyway.

another end of year question is : What is your new year resolution? Do you still remember yours? wat was yours last year? mine was this one, and did i achieve it. Nope! Being a monkey is not that easy ya! i tell you. too adventurous.

and this year...well...wat should i procrastinate wish for now? hmm....

Looking forward to 2008 with open arms and wishes ALL of U beautiful guys & handsome dolls Da Best. If in 2007, i offended or pissed off anyone, well...there must be a reason for it and let bygone be bygone. Bury it and move on, i say: Life is short for all the sadness & grudges, so i delicate this fantastic song to everyone which i ♥.

Like she said, post concert...it would be boring to sing the same old songs over and over again. Really a show for all diehard fans of our diva. Perfection!!!!

This live music show is nothing but...

The most daring ever for a music show in HK (i say and so does others)

i'm not referring to those high jumping tiger-in-cage type or jump over fire hoops ones. I'm talking about the music itself. Isn't watching a concert all about that-the music.

To all diehard SL fans, it's like Sandy reads ur mind. Its our moment.

Sandy embraces music in its purity, in its origin. Just like she said previously, expect a whole new experience n new music style. come as u are...

Daring cos it's a new concept show. 2 full hours of music with brilliant lighting, sound, and graphic (backdrop). Yes...the whole show brings u into a diff world.

Where east meets west. That's the concept: musically & visually. Amazing.

Daring cos for the entire show she only had 2 costume changes.

Daring cos she sang mostly b-sides track which we all loved so much.

Daring cos for the entire show, she only said thank yous.

Daring cos she is the only artiste to pull such a show minus all the glitz and all the gimmicks.

Daring cos life would be boring...

I dun care, what others said, the show was well-arranged, musically and visually. From the arrangement to the flawless rendition. I can't wait for the dvd release.

The show was fantastic, if to hv to pick fav: not in any order. Day (fantastic live rendition), rush, who treats u better? (surprised u sang), cry, are u ready, incomplete, perfect, dun care, wish (my song)...

All in all, it was worth every penny. It was a fresh concept show. I loved it.(not biased ok)

However, if i do have to comment on the down side is this: Our 6th nite show was intended to be the last night. So ENCORE!!!! But no... I so do not want to leave my seat yo! hmpf!... and that includes everyone...all of us were shouting...And just read from the oursandylam.com, the 10th show, you sang like soooo many more tracks and encored twice. arghhh!!! I want to hear Choi Kin Pei Ngoi live. I want to hear Zhi Pat Tak Yi live. I want to hear Mut Kit Gor live. I want to hear them all. I want i want.

But if any consolation, well...i got to meet and hug you on Saturday up close and personal. Wow! yeah!!!! fingercross the pic come out ok...cos i look tired and hair is a mess.

sandy and I...

yes guys... I met Sandy Lam in real person. YEAH!!!! i'm a star-strucked and gobsmacked and most importantly i'm soooooooooooo happy. wat a day!

thank god i checked the internet the other nite and signed up for the meet & greet with the fanclub. haha! too bad you guys are not here.... nah nah nah!!!

thank god i stayed till sunday. yeah!!!!

ok... it was a short meet&greet the fans only cos she was busy with rehearsal for the concert. She re-arranged the run down for each nite of her shows so she can get it to perfection.

ok...enuf...wat happen?

arrived ard 3pm at emax for the event. took a close up panaroid shot, yes each fans can do that and get to write messages on the picture. of course i did.
Then the fan club would compiled them on the spot into an album and presented it to SL during the meet&greet.

waited quite a while cos like i said, SL was busy rehearsing and we did not get to meet her till 5-ish. But it was worth the wait i tell you.

We were only supposed to take group photos with SL; countries by countries. So me being the only one from Brunei...wahoo!!!! yeah baby...ONE 2 ONE...no joke. jealous anyone hahahah!!!!

She came out of the venue, and the fan club presented her the book and flowers. SL being SL. She cried...cos she was touched by US...haha! yes...us. hehe! She look amazing dressed in a jumper and jeans.

she spoke only for a bit as like i said, she is rehearsing. she is such a perfectionist. ok..ok..

She thanked us (the fans) for our support and she said she tried her best to make this conceptual music event to what she intended it to be as there are some places she wished she could changed. She apologized to us cos some fans complained about the seating. To that, she said it's due to sponsors. She had already tried her best in given us the best seats she can.

And yes... we had some of the best seats...5th rows leh...hehe!!! more abt concert review later lah. anyway...

I hugged SL. oh yes i did. I was (almost) speechless. All i can say is: I love U. I love U. I'm from Brunei. And Thank you. AND....I took picture with SL. just me & SL. yes guys ....Just imagine all the other fans from spore, Malaysia, taiwan, china or HK...all came in group or party of 6 or more. For me....just me and Sandy....yes...JUST ME & SANDY...wooohoo...will post the pic once the fanclub post it online. hehe!!!! cos no one is allowed to take pic using their own camera.

next trip...

as previously post and responding to le'qua fashionista & bonny, our next trip out might just be sooner than you guys think. I'm so so so so so excited. I read about it last night and today another site was kinda confirming-ish. wat the hos & has?

clue #1 : concert

clue #2 : sandy lam

clue #3 : press conference next tuesday.

Gosh! too much too much! Sooo cannot wait to hear the confirmation. And ooo the pending date for her concert is 9th November. So keep those fingercrossed. (pic)

ps. the concert will be held in Emax (new venue) as the old Hung Hom is closed for renovation and the new venue will only be ready around September and our SANDY will be the first artiste/diva to hold a concert there. Ooo...it only has a capacity of 3500 so the concert will be very cosy and intimate. NICE! closer to our DIVA.

fyi. anyone interested in going to Ipoh, Malaysia this August? If yes, Great. cos on the 11th, there will be a summer outdoor concert with loads of artistes, and Sandy is one of the 2 BIG names in the mix. If no, then this another reason for you guys to hope on the plane. Unfortunately, I can't make it and decided no to fly. hmm...just say, giving my visa a rest.

now now, like i need another reason to why i ♥ sandy lam. seriously.

to me, SL is sometimes under-rated and under-appreciated by the public but loved by the critics and most importantly ME. yes! I ♥ SL. (just to make sure everyone knows*haha)

well, last nite at Z's, we went youtubing and found this.



yes! few years back, i read somewhere (* i'm still googling high & low for that piece of news) by a critic or fan that SL's falsetto was so high that even dolphins can hear. The term used here is 'whistle register' Too bad this track was never released as a single. It was said (if i recalled correctly) SL did not realised she did that until her producer told her tat! There are not many Asian (or maybe none) who can achieve that high pitched range.

Listen to this album, simply titled Sandy'94 . You will be amazed by how many good tracks there are - produced by SL & Anthony in LA.

多些那些, 芝加哥的故事(when SL performed live-OMG), 誰像你好 (above track), 對不起了愛, 決心Remix, 沉淪 (years later, critics said this track was too way forward for that time-more relevant now???), 赤裸的秘密, 感情不老 (SL's fav-her tribute to her fans), 明天醒來時(my fav), 決心 (first single)

If you have been looking at my sidebars (on the left), SL performed 沒結果 Live in 1993 and again, towards the end...amazing. Again, not being biased, there aren't that many singer in Asia can do that.

Thus in most singing competition, not many picked SL's songs. why? Though SL made them seems effortless but if you are not trained or well-experienced, it's not that easy. You may say some of SL's hits are commercial, as mando-pop are anyway; but try singing it in karaoke, you will understand. I have heard this comment from loads of critics & DJs, so i'm not biased hor.

yo -o-oh-o- ga

Wat a class tonite? seriously wat a class? i hv not been practicing yoga for over a week cos Danura was away in a 'conference' in HK.

But wat a class? Not only Danura came back looking slimmer & fitter than before, the class was in full mode tonite. Yup! as usual, toxins (sweats) came pouring out of my pores.
Wat the ho & the ha?

where do i start? here goes...

1. we did the normal salutation with our eyes CLOSED. Yes! BAH CHEW KAM hor! MATA TUTUP! dun play play! As Danura said, "Our breathe is there to guide us through", and my breathe did just tat. It's not tat scary as i thought i will be and it's rather interesting cos i get to feel and be more aware of the surrounding. (pic)

ok, got to say this: not sure if all the clanging noise at the beginning was the background music or from downstairs-cos that was kinda irritating. So in back of my mind- BREATHE>>>> BREATHE- 呼吸 by Sandy (of course)

yup...in heavy rotation:

then the music turned kinda tribal-ish. haha! ok, not tat bad after a while cos the beats worked for the next set of poses & sequences.

2. the pace of the class went from slow to fast. No joke. And i love it. Together with the beats, i think my adrenaline level kinda went up a notch.

3. we did the 'sexy cobra' haha! i ain't joking. It was hmm...Nice and sexy. shake it shake it (*grins) wondered wat other sexy poses there are huh... (pic)

4. loads of new variations from the 'normal' poses.

like i say earlier, it was a good class. Now i need to go and 'save the cheerleader', and maybe 'save the world'.
