road trip, raybans & wedding...

wah hei...i'm a happy happpy happpy bunnyyyyyy...

Saturday, i went for a road trip to KBtown with Zar, James & met up w/ Val & S for lunch @ the original rojak/cucur udang/icekacang place. where? here lah.

Well, this trip was arranged by J, and u cannot say NO to a free ride all the way to KBtown for lunch. Plus he won himself a treat from bidarlah as he correctly

guessed this place previously;

got to say, he also guessed quite a few correctly lah. Damn Well done yo!

I'm sure James will blog all about his dayout, as he did take quite a few pics. So i will leave tat to him.

but why am i happy?

post lunch, we went shopping...well...how shld i say it? walking around the 2 rows of shops. Yeah...more like it...tat's it. But hei, was it a fruitful walk, or IT IS!!!!

1. i bought my secret santa pressie for shhhhhh!!! phew! done...

2. i bought myself another sunnies. yes! another pair...after buying one pair in Japan & one in HK - which i looooved but this one is a MUST. Cos i hv been looking for it high and low.

Earlier in the year i fell in love with the rayban's Wayfarer, and bought the
1980's version in tortoise color but wat i really wanted was the black ones. But just no way to be found plus its in minted condition man...and at a bargain. Trust me! bargain...its a keeper and collector item (my first rayban) Not the re-released ones.

Then i saw the black original ones, on Saturday in one of the shops.

clue for me, its original/ vintage sunnies.

1. the shop sells sunglasses and watches ONLY.

2. the shop had been there for donkey years.

3. all the sunnies are OLD and there are no new stocks like ever since.

4. An Ah-Gong looked after the shop ever since.

5. U can bargain. However, do check the frames & lenses carefully.

The one i bought is this one...
In case u like me, wondering how come the black one got no rayban logo...did i got ripped off, silly fool?

hmm...i dun think so, cos it came with the black leather rayban wayfarer casing, and the 'glass' lens is engraved with the BL (like all orginals)and the inside side frame is engraved with B&L RAY-BAN U.S.A with the model code. hmm...so i tot wow...original la and did not realised the missing logo. hmm...until

so i googled as me no expert in raybans and found out it's actually the1960's RayBan wayfarer. 1960's original leh!!! (i emailed this store, and now await their confirmation if it's authentic), the frame is slightly smaller than the 1980's tortoise one. Nonetheless, for the time being, i say its VINTAGE man!!!! and that deserves a celebration. And let me tell you guys, Rayban collectors...it's heaven for you guys....i tell you. Unfortunately, i only want the wayfarer. so if you guys want aviators...check it out...all kinds and bargain man.

Today...

went to Rozie & Zadi's Bersanding (wedding)- i think this could well be my first Malay wedding i attended in my life. Ok...maybe when i was young, i may have but i dun recalled; so tat doesn't count right? ok ok...not true cos last week i went to another Malay wedding but not the traditional at home type cos it's at a hotel. Well...as long there are food, i'm happy. I wanted to take photos of the place, food, day and all but it's (quite) hot and the floor is (slightly) muddy. So did not, but got talking to Gman himself- he is like he claimed on his blog, he is a funny papa/guy, and yes...payperpost works. check it out.

Anyway...CONGRATS to both the pengantin.

farewell...

not to my concubine but to one of my 'bestest' friend (Fatimah Abdullah-haha!)...whom we shared loads of hmm...intimate stories, personal details and moreeee....

Got to say, of all her short trips back home; this has got to be most number of times i seen her. lunches, dinners, coffee, just no bedroom hmm...i meant breakfasts...too early bah.

Fatimah (almost)

few nights ago, the bidarlahs went out for a farewell dinner, minus the soon-to-be-married super-busy couple (and ooo... oso minus one or two or even three, i really dunno, are they on/off, are they or aren't they a couple yet?-'kids' nowsaday huh...i tell you) @ one of the local indo-thai-malay restaurant.

Some may heard about the controversial abt the restaurant but the food is good nonetheless. so good that she is bringing her family for dinner. gosh!

the food: (for andy)
only when i reached home, i realised we did not take any pics of US and most importantly of Me and hmm...Fatimah. all we did were...hmm...stuffing all the yummy food into our stomachs. haha!

ps. Fatimah, hope to see you soon hor...:)

pps. waiting for my expense paid holiday with you hor. ok ok...just ticket lah. ;)

ppps...she even made it to brunei no1 social news leh...steady huh...

timkat's dinner...

guess who's back?

like i posted previously, to those who emailed & called me asking me who & wat? even tried to guess haha! no no no...not our long lost friend mr G. no no!!! I doubt he will call ever period. Believe me!

So who? It's nabu and her hubby...YES!!!
i was shocked and surprised to say the least, imagine her face appeared on my phone when my mobile rang few days back. haha! Why shocked? She should be in HK....living her new married life, working as a hmm...not sure if she want to tell the whole world. anyway...both of them were back home, having a blast!

why her phone rang & he called? small quiet wedding banquet/dinner with close friends & family.

to Mr & Mrs Lam, thanks for the invitations. yes! no typos... with a 's'.

why? cos i can't make it to their intended ie. family & friends banquet ...got other engagement bah...and rmb book me earlier yo hahahha...so they arranged for another dinner for us.
who are us?

ta-dah...the small group minus a one who couldn't make it.

where we ate?

in a little brasserie. yes! 'little' and kinda exclusive spot right in center of town. It was also my first time eating there. You won't know the restaurant is there cos there is no signage outside, the only sign u will get is only when u walk up the steps, round the corner. Very discreet, very hidden, very who ha, very quiet (literally)

But you will be greeted with this:

yes...DO NOT STANDBY hor...Boleh!!!

apparently, for those been round the block in bandar, would remember it use to be the Grill Bar in the 90s and it was kinda like a little pub and if u want a good piece of 200g steak, you head there? i dun remember.

my food

forgot to snap my Caesar salad w/prawns...cos TOO HUNGRY and it was nice.

my 200g sirloin steak...medium of course!!

and for dessert
chocolate cake- look really good huh? but ok ok only lah. somehow it didn't really tickle my palette and overpriced i must say! 12 bucks for one slice...excuse me!!!

gosh! i have not seen mr lam for like ages and talked about all kind of stuffs: his MTR station in HK, their wedding, work, family life, more wedding stuffs, concerts, sandy lam, holidays and he even showed me how to pose with your fingers:1,2,3,4 and 5; after i showed him my versions.

No pics unfortunately cos it's PG-rated hahah!!! one day lah!

UPDATE 11.10.07

Walked past it today, and saw the owner installed a signboard at the bottom of the steps & a little red awning. So it's not all that secretive anymore hahaha!

twenty something...

last nite, we celebrated MV 'twenty something' and had dinner in one of our fav restaurant in town.
the food was yummy. And we ordered loads. the 'tahu telor' (bean curd egg) never failed to tickle my taste bud and Sherry, U got to try this. No kidd man! The ikan bilis: sour yet spicy; the chickens: jakarta & bakar, ooo the fish cakes..., wat else? too many lah.

Then we also had two different types of fish: curry fish and fish 'lemak'. This is the first time i tasted a hint of durian flavour incorporated in a fish dish. So the sauce is kinda mushy but tasted good. Apparently this is commonly used in some of the malay/indonesian cooking. hmm...

The location or the room for our dinner was well set up - cosy and the decor had a hint of Bali. If only my living room look like this.

And yes! I made the birthday cake- Chocolate Truffle Meringue Cake.

I was kinda worried during the process cos the mixture doesnt look promising. It went gluey and kinda lumpy. Note to self then was 'plan B': get a spare cake in case. But luckily ...

Hope Zar like it and everyone like it too. It's my first attempt to make a truffle cake.

I wanted to decorate the cake with raspberry or any berries but could not find any, so in come the all trusted Ferrero haha! Crushed it and add some shardes of dark chocolate over. I now need to learn how to do wordings (piping). So any one want to order cakes let me know.

and a man ....

last sat, the bidarlahs (minus mr yam tak wah-lookalike hmm 40% lah, actually make it 20%) went to try out a new eatery in town. Well, new to us as we hv not eaten there, but it have been serving the public for a couple of months now. It's a new concept or idea formed by a cooperative society made up of the local youths. But how was the food and how was the service?

That nite was raining like mad so it didnt help for all of us, as we do not know the exact location, so finding the place as u can imagine, is a task: which junction to turn in? Found it, and the restaurant was smaller than wat i expected, but indeed cosy lah, few tables inside and few more outside under a tent (which inspires someone for her wedding).

Forgot to bring my camera, thus no photo and also hmm...lazy lah. Hungry bah ya as i just finished our last yoga class in the 'moon' studio ever. So did i cry? nope but sweated by the bucket. no kidd!

Anyway, i'm not a food critic but the food we ordered were delicious: spicy, fiery, hot, buttery, yummy. Nice lah. Fried wings, butter chicken, pakis, fish, chicken, chicken, lamb stew (secret recipe wor), beef. The only thing is the portion; thus we had to order twice in between to fit all 8 vultures. haha! But all is well cos for ALL the food we ordered that nite, we only paid like 10 dollars each. Madness! And best of all, it's MSG free apparently.

However, the service there sucks big time. No joke. The waiter looked lost, the cashier stoned? Actually, they did not even reserved or took note of my reservation when i called. I knew it! Cos when i called the night before,

Me: Can i have make a reservation for 8 person tomorrow nite?
Gal: Huh?
Me: repeat again
Gal: Ooo...u want huh. wait u talk to my friend. wait.
(hmm...wat is this???)

Guy: halo
Me: repeat again
guy: ok. (and he almost put down his phone before i say wat time and my name)

Guy: ooh. wat time again?
Me: (giving details)....

when i arrived, guy at the counter looked at his book, and yes! no reservation were made indeed. wat is this? youth? come on!

Food was great (no doubt) but the service is really bad. The 'lost' waiter laughed back at you while repeating our orders, went to the counter, came back and still cannot read our order properly. Seriously!!!

Will we go back? Probably a yes, but not so soon. Ooo the place is called Andaman. enuf said.

crowd-o-crowd...

'goodness'...or like my old kawan used to say,"Madness". The number of teenagers (not the mutant turtles type) in the mall last nite (thursday); Alamak: if one to really count with his counter, dunno where to start. Not only it's packed due to the fact there is a computer fair going on (apparently- it's the return ie. extended) in the atrium area and plus is a school holiday tomolo & also no work for govt personnels. So that adds the number of bodies among the sea of people. So for those into school boys & gals, u know when and where to meet them.

All i want is Ice Cream. Yes! Cold yummy chocolate-y icecream. Cos the last time we were there: no ice-cream: Unbelievable! I know.

Me & Z got our ice-creams and to our surprise, did anyone of you guys know tat Swensens increased their price. Unbelievable again! Wat: business too good, demand so high; so cream the people more lah huh. Very clever. I do wonder, compare with other Asian countries store, which one is the cheapest and dearest? Any idea???

then we walked around to check out wat's new and try to find 'something' for another theme party this weekend. Nada...but so might just need to look in my wardrobe that fits the Japanese theme. Ooo...Paris you better go grab your cardigan cos it's too tight for moi. It's yours! No fight. haha!

And then i spotted this:

wat the heck do they mean by virtually storewide huh? seriously pls explain. some smart ass thought of that term or is it used elsewhere? virtually? it's not physical then, not real then? up to 50% somemore? So is it a new slang word for only limited stuff on sale, or those we cant sell are up for sale, or wat u see are not on sale but wat u dont want, yup they are on sale. hmm...

went inside and looked around. Ask the sales gal (who had some attitude-how dare her!); "wat is on sale?" Only those 2 racks at the back. "How much is the discount?" 20% cos 50% all gone. hmm...i do wonder...it's really virtually. really bidarlah.

and i think the mall shld be renamed as "Genuine Fake Mall". Slowly ever slowly it's becoming like the Yayasan. Remember it use to be popular with loads of different shops but now just count the number of such shops selling hmm...how do i say it nicely, Fake LV, Fake BV, Fake Chanel, Fake Dior, Fake Gucci, Fake Prada, Fake Hermes, Fake Balenciaga, fake fake fake, except there arent any fake london. shame~ I know someone (no names shame mention here) bought a couple. lalala

p.s have a good friday everyone...

ciao...

Today we had our lunch @ the airport, which is overly priced for a plate of nasi lemak- so much for the ambience, i say. Yes! the airport restaurant. why? well, to send our diva O back to aussieland. We were supposed to be there @ 11:30 but thank goodness Jinno told Z abt the flight delay, unlike in Jo & Scarlot's case whom weren't informed by our Diva, were there one hour early. I was also told unlike last year, there werent any tears running down our Jo's eyes. Guessed after she found love, her tears glands are tied up, and all she concentrating on or shall i say, focusing is her wedding or family to be.

Jin, LS, Z, Me, A & the Diva O had our lunch, or in Ed's case breakfast (chicken rice) & lunch (roti kosong).Would like to delicate a song to our Diva O: (*ala Mimi-guess which song-i'm sure u know)

Who’s gonna talk to me on the phone, bitching about everyone;
Who’s gonna take your place, there ain’t nobody better, Oh baby baby …

So long partner; and hope the bruises round your nipples area stay another day longer haha!

weekend begins...

To mark the long weekend, well for me at least, cos saturday was a holiday, all of us went to eat at an indonesian restaurant in Gdg (which we havent been for quite a while), nice decor -very safari-ish which is so fitting to my party hehe! However, wont be doing it there.

Food was great but very very slow. We ordered quite a lot, all of us was really hungry to begin with, but somehow, as the food arrived so slowly ( i repeat ) even the rice for everyone, thus some of us acted like vultures and downed wat's in front of us too quickly and towards the end, well...can't finish the food. The rice is moulded in a shape of a i-dunno-, wat you guys think, whose is bigger: Jo's or the rice?

Ooo...prior to our dinner, i went to the mall to redeem, actually to get my free airmiles, 500 to be exact courtesy of the world's local bank, just by flashing my credit card, IC and royal skies card. Also, won myself a free meal to a local 'chicken' dining eatery and 3 lucky draw chances to win some cash (i think) just by showing them a transaction receipt and by rowing a dice on the stage. It's all part of the bank roadshow.

Post dinner, went for a cuppa at the nearby joint-nice and ordered by regular mocha soya. Nice! The barrister(s) was/were rather creative, not sure if they got too much time in their time or simply one of their standard cos one cuppa said: Enjoy your coffee.

Then a few of us went to Jo's place for a mahjong sesssion, where she could just NOT, and i really really meant it, COULD NOT shut her trap! We all love you dear, but if you could just for one minute! Oscar bet u missed her yabah yabahing, wait till you come back. Please help us!

I predict we will be having more of this session, when our diva touch down from down under. Hurray! That also will mark our upcoming Chinese New Year!

1st lunch...

our first back to work group lunch for 2007 is at the local popular kway teow restaurant. Goodness wat an honour they must have huh! muahaha! as usual, it was packed with loads of vultures during lunch time and poor ole waitress- alone somemore serving the whole restaurant.

ooo...and also finally for our miss C to da P tasted her fav. kway teow in town. She had been talking about it eversince she had it last year, how simple and good it is lah, how tasteful it is lah, how cheap it is lah. Well...another food critic-ish.

restaurant banning...

I'm banning TPH restaurant in Qlap. Service is bad, Waitresses attitude like shit, Food is tremendously slow and in my case did not even show up despite preordered prior to my arrival. And for god's sake, i ordered only kolomee ya! Not like steamed or food that need hours of cooking.

Okie, my kolomee did eventually show up but like more than half an hour later and i'm about to leave as the time is 1:20pm. So next time, go somewhere else!
