Durian lover...

Marie Antoinette famously got misquoted or famously said, "Let them eat cake", well...Bidarlah says, LET THEM EAT DURIAN. Seriously...durian durian durian. those green thorny (not horny) fruit- actually KING OF FRUIT.

My god! how many much Durian can a person eat? I say, UNLIMITED muahaha! Bring it on, i say!

Locally everywhere u see: roadside, market, under the bridge, carpark, durian stalls popping up.
For the past few days, the supply at my house is at a steady rate. sweet... and so imagine the fragrance when i open one of the fridge. nice...

mum even made durian & banana muffins haha! separate ones of course, though hmm...2 in 1? nah! dun even want to think about it. hahaha!

Opening durians is never an easy task.

U need skill, cos manhandling the king of fruit is tricky: just think of all those spikes, if not careful, i tell you, KNS, you scream and tears might even appear, then you got to pull, pull and pull them apart, with a sharp knife of course. Well...of course, i dun do such work. I tried once a while and i can say, limpeh am no expert.

It's all readily open & kept chill in the fridge for me to shove them down my throat minus the seeds of course. yummmm...

The durians we had were locals one; just look at the colours: yellow, orange, dark yellows ones.

Unlike the thais ones, ours are thin-in flesh, sticky, smaller, the shell is thornier, and the smell ooow! i love it! If you guys abroad, never tasted it, well tough. It's all for me muahaha!

Durian lovers will agree with me: chilled durians taste better, local durians have distinctive taste & smell, and no other fruits can compare to durian hahahahaha!

Eating durian, the smell is fantastic but when you blurp, OMG, i dun think you want anyone near you or worse, if you are in a room with loads of people say like a cinema. hehe! NO NO NO! Though i always say, sharing is caring rite guys!, and like my long lost super rich friend used to say: Good things must share. I suggest you to wear a glove otherwise the hmm...aroma of the durian will remain on your fingers for a while. Ok! I DO NOT wear one ok! merely just suggesting. Maybe they shld do a after-durian hand wash huh!

our latest: juicy succulent bright yellow ones. look at the shape of each of the durian fruit. doesn't it say: EAT ME!
we actually had another batch but once opened they look smoochie (probably too ripe) so suggested to make cake with it. hmm...

hope you guys are either salivating or grossed out in some cases. If only you can smell them...hmmm. oops u guys can't! nah nah nah!

UPDATE:

Our miss scarlet emailed moi this today (24/08)

and why oh why do u want to get rid of the smell from your fingers after the
durian session?? thats the best part muahahahaha!! and the burping part as
well of course hahaha!!

yes! the smell left on your fingers sometimes can be off putting haha! iknow i know. But the burping is something else i tell you. Burp! ooo...the smell. haha! i remember once during our mahjong sessions, gosh! the whole room smelt hahaha! nice one...

and a tip from her (another durian lova)

just in case u DO want to get rid of the smell from your fingers, try this,
wash your fingers under the running tap while rubbing the inside of the husk
of the durian (the bit where the durian seed gets attached to the husk) it
works cos ive tried it before!

I've heard of these fruits but had never seen them before. This was a real gastronomical lesson, Bidarlah. They must be wonderfully sweet with a lovely texture but there is a smell that challenges, right?
